Healthy? or Not?

I generally feed my family very healthy food. In fact, the whole reason we got dairy goats in the first place was so that we would have healthy, raw milk for the family.

I do believe that it's ok to have some unhealthy food occasionally, as long as it's not the norm. So if we have to get fast food every once in a while, I'm fine with that.

But lately we've been doing so many soap shows that we've been away from home and eating fast food too often.

So...

I've been trying to choose healthier choices when we're eating out. I usually order for Jim because when I ask him what he'd like he answers, "Yes". LOL

One day we were at McDonald's and I ordered him a grilled chicken wrap. He ate it and was making strange faces like it wasn't very good.  Then he went to take another bite and he started laughing.

Why did he laugh, you ask?

Because of this:

Yes, he actually ate the wrapper with this snack wrap.

And in case you're wondering, now he orders the Angus wrap and eats it without the wrapper! :D

Work Hard...

When we first started Goat Milk Stuff and needed a "tag line", Jim came up with: "Work Hard. Get Dirty. Use Good Soap.TM"

Sometimes I think our family tag line should be: Work Hard. Play Hard. Sleep Hard.

You may remember this blog post about the results of Jade playing hard at Disney.  And then there was this post about Emery sleeping.

Here are a few more recent photos of the girls demonstrating the "Sleep Hard" part of our motto:

The last one is my favorite. We had gone to Holiday World for the whole day and on the way home we decided to stop at Sam's Club and get a pizza (actually we order 3). Here's how excited Jade was about the prospect of pizza:

Yep, passed out in Indigo's lap.  Indigo looks like she's pretty close to passing out too.  That's us! Definitely working hard, playing hard, and sleeping hard. :D

Where's Emery Going to Sleep?

In general, I love almost all aspects of having a large family. There is one aspect that I intensely dislike, however.

And that is the semi-annual clothes changeover.

Managing clothes for 8 children is never easy, but when it's time to switch from summer to winter clothes (or winter to summer) - ugh, what a nightmare!!

We've been working on it for several days.

Today, the boys got all their clothes out and separated them into piles based on size and type (shorts, pants, short-sleeve shirt, etc.)

That took most of the morning, so by the time they finished their soap work, school work, play time, dinner time, and chores it was 8:00 and time for bed. I went into the boys room to tuck the younger kids in, and I admit, out of my mouth popped, "Oh CRUD! Where is Emery going to sleep?"

Because of course, the boys had sorted ALL of their clothes (5 boys' worth of clothes) onto Emery's bed!!

(When am I ever going to learn to be more specific with them!)

I heard Jim laughing in the dining room. When I asked him why he was laughing, he said, "Is that what you're going to call your blog post tonight? - Oh crud! Where is Emery going to sleep?"

I decided that was as good a post title as any (although I did remove the "Oh CRUD" part from the title). :D

I LOVE my Daughter

For those of you who have met Brett in person, you're aware of what a special young lady she is. She is so capable and intelligent. She impresses everyone she comes into contact with. Her sisters absolutely adore her.  And although she may annoy her brothers when she bosses them around, they turn to her when they need her.

Those are just a few of her good qualities. She's also turning into a charming and beautiful young lady right before my eyes.

It's such a bittersweet thing watching her grow up.

We're so thankful that my brother and his family are stationed within driving distance from us.  It's wonderful to be able to share memories with them!

The Blue Angels

Of course, the most amazing part of the air show was the Blue Angels.  I had seen the Blue Angels when I was a kid - they're as awesome as I remembered them being!

When the air show was over, we asked the children what their favorite part of the air show was.  Everybody agreed that the Blue Angels were their favorite part.  Well... everybody except Indigo.  When I asked what her favorite part was, she quickly answered, "The Blue Fairies!" LOL

I'm so glad I got my new camera and went back for the zoom lens.  I'm going to let the pictures speak for themselves:

The kids (boys especially) got all "geeked out" when the Blue Angels played "chicken" with each other:

It's just so amazing how close they get to each other!  So cool!!
